How does the MME / SGSN check equipment identity?
The MME/SGSN examines the equipment identity by dispatching a Mobile Identity Check Request (MICR) to the Equipment Identity Register (EIR) through the S13 interface. Within the MICR, the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number of the device trying to connect to the network is included. Subsequently, the EIR cross-validates the IMEI number against its database and promptly sends back a Mobile Identity Check Answer (MICA) to the MME/SGSN. This MICA holds the device's equipment status, providing valuable insights.
What are the various device statuses?
- Allowlisted
The device is allowed to access network services. - Denylisted
The device is reported as stolen or lost and is denied access to network services. - Greylisted
The device is faulty or has some issues and is allowed to access the network services with some restrictions.
